Sleepy Eye FFA qualifies two more teams for state

WINDOM – Thursday, April 3, the Floriculture and Nursery Landscape Teams competed in the Region VI Competition in Windom.
The Floriculture Team earned second place out of 16 teams and 68 individuals. Team members include: Elsie Trebesch (second individual), Lily Kallevig (fourth individual), Jose Castorena, and Karina Martinez.
The Floriculture CDE tests student knowledge of flowers and plants, growing media, fertilizer, greenhouse management, design concepts, and the floriculture industry. They also are tested on their identification skills of annuals, cut flowers, greenhouse crops, and floriculture equipment and tools as well as their skills in creating a corsage.
The Nursery Landscape Team earned second place out of seven teams and 28 individuals. Team members included: Madi Martinez (third individual), Kamille Capacia (seventh individual), Kenley Jensen, and Maddy Goldschmidt. The NL contest tests student knowledge of plants, flowers, weeds, trees, diseases, and equipment seen and used in landscaping. They are also tested on their identification of these as well as completing a practicum of using an architect’s scale and figuring out volume and area for different plots.
Both teams qualified for State Competition that will be held at the State Convention on April 28.
