Convicted killer who was mistakenly released from jail is caught 2 weeks later
JONESBORO, Ga. (AP) — The U.S. Marshals Service says a convicted killer who was mistakenly released from a Georgia jail has been caught two weeks later in Florida. Marshals spokesman Brady McCarron said Kathan Guzman was apprehended Friday, but the spokesman did not have more specific details such as the location of the arrest. Guzman has admitted to strangling his girlfriend, 19-year-old Delila Grayson, who was found dead in a bathtub in August 2022. The victim’s mother lives in Florida, and told local media she’s been terrified Guzman will come after the family for their role in the trial.
Federal judge sides with Trump in allowing immigration enforcement in houses of worship
WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge on Friday sided with the Trump administration in allowing immigration agents to conduct enforcement operations at houses of worship despite a lawsuit filed by religious groups over the new policy. U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich in Washington refused to grant a preliminary injunction to the plaintiffs, more than two dozen Christian and Jewish groups representing millions of Americans. She found that only a handful of immigration enforcement actions have been conducted in or around churches or other houses of worship and that the evidence doesn’t show “that places of worship are being singled out as special targets.”
Trump wants Congress to end the changing of clocks
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Friday urged Congress to “push hard for more Daylight at the end of a day” in his latest dig at the semiannual changing of clocks. Trump, in a post on his Truth Social media network, said it would be “Very popular and, most importantly, no more changing of the clocks, a big inconvenience and, for our government, A VERY COSTLY EVENT!!!” The Republican president’s position calling for more daylight would push the schedule forward, keeping the country on daylight saving time. His post came a day after a Senate panel heard testimony examining whether to set one time all year instead of shifting. There has been growing interest in states to standardize daylight saving time in recent years. But daylight saving time, when clocks are set from spring to fall one hour ahead of standard time, is still recognized in most parts of the country.
