New Ulm Police
• Took a call at 12:15 p.m. Friday from a 37-year-old New Ulm woman at 16th Street North suffering from a mental health crisis. Officers met with her in her apartment. A report went to Brown County Human Services.
• Responded to New Ulm Medical Center (NUMC) at Friday night for a report of a sexual assault between a 9-year-old New Ulm girl and 13-year-old New Ulm boy. A report went to Brown County Human Services and the Brown County Attorney’s Office.
• Stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation at 3:46 p.m. Saturday at Minnesota St. and 20th Street South. Officers noticed marijuana odor inside the vehicle and questioned a 22-year-old male driver about it. The driver produced two “roaches” (clips). Officers searched the vehicle and located a firearm under a seat. The driver had a valid permit to carry the firearm but did not have it in his possession. The driver was issued a verbal warning for expired registration and open cannabis package in the vehicle. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for consideration of transporting a firearm and carrying a weapon without permit possession.
• Responded to a physical domestic at 11:23 a.m. Sunday involving a 36-year-old New Ulm woman and a 42-year-old New Ulm man. Officers noticed a fresh mark on the man’s hip which he said was caused by the woman throwing something at him. The man did not allow officers to photo the wound and said he did not want his girlfriend arrested. The woman admitted throwing an object out of frustration. Officers completed a report for documentation.
• Took multiple driving complaints Sunday of erratic driving conduct. A vehicle was stopped on Cemetery Avenue. A 46-year-old New Ulm man was arrested for DWI and transported to NUMC for a blood draw, then transported to the Brown County Evaluation Center. After blood draw results are obtained, a report will be sent to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for consideration of open bottle, 3rd-degree DWI and no proof of insurance charges.
• Took a skip-scanning report involving a 25-year-old New Ulm man at Walmart Sunday. Eight incidents were viewed on surveillance from July 11-Aug. 28 involving the man placing trading cards in a pencil container and only scanning the pencil container. The total value of eight thefts was $736.38. Reports for theft went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office and Department of Corrections.
• Responded Sunday to a report of a 35-year-old New Ulm woman in need of assistance with her 9-year-old daughter of New Ulm who was being assaultive towards her siblings. Officers arrived and noticed the woman “bear hugging” her daughter. Officers calmed the daughter down. A report went to Brown County Human Services.
Renville County Sheriff’s Office
• Attempted to do a traffic stop of a 2016 Dodge Charger near the intersection of Highway 71 and CR 17, about 3 miles south of Olivia at 7:04 p.m. Sunday. Deputies and Olivia Police pursued the vehicle into the City of Olivia. The vehicle crashed into a railroad embankment near the intersection of Elm Avenue West and 12th Street North. The driver, Carter Wittman, 19, Redwood Falls, was taken into custody. Nobody was injured in the pursuit and crash.
