Renville County Sheriff’s Office
• Attempted to do a traffic stop of a 2016 Dodge Charger near the intersection of Highway 71 and CR 17, about 3 miles south of Olivia at 7:04 p.m. Sunday. Deputies and Olivia Police pursued the vehicle into the City of Olivia. The vehicle crashed into a railroad embankment near the intersection of Elm Avenue West and 12th Street North. The driver, Carter Wittman, 19, Redwood Falls, was taken into custody. Nobody was injured in the pursuit and crash.
Brown County Sheriff’s Office
• Responded to a theft report of miscellaneous power tools sometime last night on TH 257 E., Hanska at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. No value estimate was available. A report will be done for documentation.
New Ulm Police
• Met with a 48-year-old New Ulm man at 4 p.m. Monday who said he was the victim of scam in the amount of $1,050.58. The man said he got a call from a person who claimed to be with a bank fraud department who said fraudulent activity was detected on his card and the caller needed to verify some information. The scammer got the man’s debit card number but needed him to confirm the 3-digit CVV number and expiration date, which he did. Shortly after that, the man noticed a $1,050.58 charge to Cub Foods, St. Paul. A report went to investigators.
• Took a skip scanning report from the Walmart self-service checkout at 7:08 p.m. Monday. From Sept. 6 to Oct. 17, a 67-year-old St. James woman had five transactions in which she did not pay for all her items. The total theft amount was $306. The woman was interviewed and denied the thefts. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for theft charge consideration.
• Officers came upon an unoccupied vehicle in a traffic lane at Highway 14 and CR 29 at 11:49 p.m. Monday. The vehicle owner, a 28-year-old New Ulm woman, was walking back to the vehicle and said it broke down. She was cited for expired registration.
