New Ulm Police
• Received a driving complaint at 11:20 p.m. Friday of a vehicle coming into town on Nicollet County Road 37. Police stopped a vehicle and talked with the driver, a 22-year-old New Ulm woman. Officers noticed intoxication indicators from the woman who failed sobriety tests. She was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for consideration of 3rd-degree test refusal.
• Stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation at State Highway 14/U.S. Highway 14 at 10:55 p.m. Saturday. Police noticed a faint marijuana odor in the vehicle. The driver, a 55-year-old Courtland man, said he had a medical marijuana prescription. Police told him he needed to keep the marijuana in the container it came in. A report went to the Minnesota Department of Correction Probation.
• Took a skip-scanning theft report from Walmart Sunday. A 45-year-old New Ulm woman was reported to have not scanned all her items on six incidents from Oct. 6 to Nov. 8. Police interviewed the woman and cited her for theft. A report was done for documentation.
• Took a report from Smiley’s Tavern of a 40-year-old New Ulm man who was asked to leave after punching and shattering a window Sunday. The man told police he was asked to leave the bar and broke a window on the way out. A damage estimate was not available. A report for consideration of criminal damage to property charges was sent to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office and the Minnesota Department of Motor Vehicles for violating an alcohol use restriction. The man was issued a trespass notice.
• Took an assault report at Smiley’s Tavern. Police talked to a 62-year-old New Ulm woman who said she was punched in the face with a closed fist. Police noticed reddening on her face. The woman said she felt jaw pain after the punch but did not seek medical attention. The suspect, a 40-year-old New Ulm woman, told police she was harassed by the victim all night, which was disputed by witnesses. A report for consideration of 5th-degree disorderly conduct and assault was sent to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office.
• Took a report of a physical domestic Sunday. Police talked with a 37-year-old New Ulm man and 29-year-old New Ulm woman who both said they were subject to minor pushing and shoving from the other person. Police did not notice any injuries. Reports went to Brown County Human Services and the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for domestic assault charge consideration.
Sleepy Eye Police
• Responded to a vandalism report at storage units at 701 Elm St. N.E. at 9:38 a.m. Monday. Locks were reported vandalized. It was not known if building entry was gained. Police are investigating. A report was done for documentation.
Brown County Sheriff’s Office
• Responded to a missing 17-year-old male in Home North Township, near the State Highway 4 bridge over the Minnesota River at 11:06 p.m. Saturday. The sheriff’s office used a drone to search for the youth said to have mental health issues, beginning at 11:58 p.m. Saturday but did not find him. The Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office received a tip at 8 a.m. Sunday of a teen walking about a mile east of the Harkin Store on CR 21. Deputies responded, found the male unharmed and transported him home. Assisting agencies included Brown and Nicollet County Sheriff’s Offices, New Ulm and Sleepy Eye Police, Sleepy Eye and Fairfax Fire Departments. A report went to Brown County Human Services.
Minnesota State Patrol
• Responded to a one-vehicle crash on State Highway 4, Brookfield Township, Renville County at 5:56 a.m. Saturday. Tyler Michael Hoffman, 29, Bertha, was driving a 2014 Subaru Outback southbound on Highway 4, left the road and crashed. He was transported to Hutchinson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He wore a seat belt, airbags deployed and alcohol was not involved. The Renville County Sheriff’s Office, Hector Fire and Ambulance and Allina Ambulance assisted.
