New Ulm Police
• Stopped a vehicle driven by a 53-year-old St. Paul man with a cancelled drivers license-inimical to public safety Dec. 25. Police noticed an equipment violation and that the vehicle plates didn’t match. The man was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. A report went to the Brown County City Attorney’s Office.
• Talked to a 22-year-old New Ulm man Dec. 25 who said he was receiving threatening calls including threats to kill him and his parents. Officers called the number the calls came from and talked with a 45-year-old New Ulm man who denied making the calls but admitted the calls came from his phone. A report was done for documentation.
• Responded to a residence for a female having a mental health crisis Dec. 25. A 62-year-old New Ulm woman agreed to be transported to the New Ulm Medical Center. A report went to Brown County Human Services.
• Stopped a vehicle for speeding at 10:44 p.m. Dec. 24 at CR 25/CR 13, Sigel Township. Police found three marijuana cartridges, marijuana wax, a glass pipe and open package of marijuana. A 41-year-old
Butterfield man was cited for open cannabis package in a motor vehicle. A report was done for documentation.
• A 64-year-old New Ulm man told police there was fraudulent activity including $96.21 in charges on his wife’s checking account at 2:38 p.m. Dec. 23. The man said he would report the charges to his local bank and close the checking account.
• Took a Dec. 23 report from a 24-year-old New Ulm man who said he was called by someone who said there was an arrest warrant out for him for missing jury duty. The scammer sent a QR code to the man who sent $6,000 via Coinflip to satisfy the warrant. A report was done for documentation.
• Took a report of a crosswalk post damaged at 3rd North and Broadway Dec. 23. It appeared a vehicle entered the Jimmy John’s parking lot and hit the sign.
• Responded to a report of a suspicious man near a garage in an alley at 12:36 a.m. Dec. 22. Police noticed a 17-year-old Sleepy Eye male with dried blood around his mouth and nose. He was unable to provide any pertinent information due to a high intoxication level. The male was transported to detox. A report went to the Brown County Attorney’s Office for underage consumption.
• Stopped a vehicle for a stop sign violation Dec. 21. The driver, a 29-year-old Lafayette man, had a driver’s license cancelled-IPS. He was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail.
• Received a call Dec. 21 from individuals doing downtown building construction who came across unsupervised 6 and 8-year-old children. It was believed the adults responsible for them were next door at a bar. The stepmother, a 26-year-old New Ulm woman later arrived. It was confirmed she was consuming alcohol in a bar. A report went to Brown County Human Services.
• Received a Walmart skip-scanning report at 1:23 p.m. Dec. 21. A 27-year-old New Ulm woman did not scan all her items at a self checkout on five dates. Total value of the theft was $35.32. She was cited for theft.
• Tried to stop a vehicle for an equipment violation Dec. 21. The vehicle fled New Ulm on 20th South and later entered a ditch on Nicollet County 21. A 19-year-old man, the driver, exited the vehicle as did a 17-year-old New Ulm male. The driver was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. A report was sent to the Brown County Attorney’s Office.
• Took a report Dec. 21 from a 22-year-old North Mankato man who said he was paid $450 in counterfeit money by a 19-year-old New Ulm woman. The man said he bought a Play Station 54 from Facebook Marketplace and agreed to meet the seller in the New Ulm Post Office parking lot. Police went to the seller’s residence but he refused to answer the door. A report went to investigators.
• Took a report Dec. 21 from a 28-year-old New Ulm man who said someone tried taking out a loan in his name with his Social Security number. The man called the number the scammer listed on the loan application but did not get an answer. The man was advised to call the Social Security Administration office in Mankato. A report went to investigators.
• Took a skip-scanning report Dec. 20 involving a 61-year-old Okaloosa, Iowa woman. She did not scan items valued at $218.08 on five dates. Police are waiting to hear back from the woman.
• The New Ulm Public School Resource Officer met with five high school students about driving conduct at a Valley St. N school building. All five were cited for unreasonable acceleration.
