New Ulm Police

• Took a report of explosions heard at New Ulm Steel at 1:23 p.m. Dec. 27. An employee said both shredder engines were backfiring. A report went to New Ulm City Hall.

• Took a skip-scanning report from Walmart at 1:52 p.m. Dec. 27. A 33-year-old New Ulm woman was accused of failing to scan $277.68 worth of items on numerous occasions. She was cited for theft. A report was done for documentation.

• The Sibley County Sheriff’s Office called police at 1:54 p.m. Dec. 27 about a 30-year-old Winthrop man at a New Ulm residence with a Sibley County warrant. The man was arrested. Police met Sibley County in Klossner and turned him over. A report was done for documentation.

• Took an OFP violation report at 11:19 p.m. Dec. 27. A 32-year-old New Ulm woman said her ex-husband, a 32-year-old New Ulm man called her, which she said is a violation. Police issued an attempt to locate. The man was found by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. Police picked him up and transported him to the Brown County Jail. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office.

• Stopped a vehicle for a stop sign violation at 11:35 p.m. 1st St. N. and State St. Police noticed an open container of alcohol in the vehicle driven by a 33-year-old Pipestone woman. Police said she began to reach for a black handgun and ordered her to drop it. The woman threw the gun, later determined to be a BB gun, on the floor. She was cited for open bottle. A report was done for documentation.

• Stopped a vehicle going the wrong-way in a one-way alley at 12:44 a.m. Dec. 28. Police noticed impairment signs from a 23-year-old New Ulm man. He was arrested for 4th degree DWI, transported to the Brown County Jail and cited for 4th degree DWI. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office.

• Responded to a medical call at 4:35 p.m. Dec. 28 for an intoxicated 62-year-old New Ulm man. Police contacted the man’s probation agent, aware he could not be consuming alcohol. The man was transported to the New Ulm Medical Center Emergency Room, then detox. A report went to Brown County Probation.

• Took a skip-scanning report at Walmart at 7:21 p.m. Dec. 28. A 62-year-old New Ulm woman did not scan all items on six occasions. Total amount of the thefts was $220.35. She was cited for theft. A report was done for documentation.

• Took a suspicious activity call from the Harmony Inn at 3:26 p.m. Dec. 29. Police met with a 42-year-old New Ulm man under the influence of marijuana with a Blue Earth County arrest warrant. He was transported to the Blue Earth County Jail. A report was done for documentation.

• Took a gunshot report on the 1500 block German St. N. at 4:48 p.m. Dec. 29. A 42-year-old New Ulm was responsible for gun discharge said he was cleaning the gun when it fired by accident. A report went to the Brown County Attorney’s Office for reckless discharge of a firearm.

• Took a Walmart skip-scanning report at 6:13 p.m. Dec. 29. A 42-year-old New Ulm woman did not scan all her items four times for a total of $81.55 in merchandise. She agreed to be interviewed later in the week.

Minnesota State Patrol

• Responded to a one-vehicle crash at 8:48 a.m. Dec. 28 on snow and ice on Highway 22, one mile north of Gaylord. Maria Ines Vazquez Torres, 50, Gaylord was driving a 2017 Honda Pilot northbound when she left the road and hit a sign. She was transported to a Glencoe hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She did not wear a seat belt. Alcohol was not involved. A passenger, Aiden Garcia Soto, 3, Gaylord, was also transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Sibley County Sheriff’s Office, Gaylord, Fire, Ambulance and Police assisted.
