SLEEPY EYE — New signage, LED lights and interior remodeling has been added to the Sleepy Eye Dairy Queen, 617 West Main Street.

The business recently added new interior and exterior lighting, display cases and décor.

Red Velvet Cake Blizzards and Cupid Cakes are featured in February. Wild Alaskan Pollock fish and shrimp meals will be featured in March.

Business hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily for the drive through. The restaurant closes at 8:30 p.m. daily.

Last October, Dairy Queen owner Darrel Kral had the drive-through moved from the west side to the east side of the business.

“Now the drive-through parallels the back alley. We added a walk-out door, It’s much easier to drive through now,” said Kral.

He said new LED lights really make the business visible, even from a distance.

“We have new tables, chairs, padded benches, countertops, a couch and loveseat.

Kral said Dairy Queen adds new products several times a year, Some of the more popular recent food additions include Parmesan garlic sauce and toss chicken, cakes and Oreo blizzards.

Other menu items include burgers and sandwiches, chicken baskets, meal deals, vanilla and chocolate dipped cones, chocolate and caramel sundaes, Buster Bars, Dilly Bars, Peanut Buster Parfaits and Brownie and Oreo Cupfections.

“Many of my customers come from New Ulm, which no longer has a Dairy Queen. We really appreciate them coming here,” he said.

Kral bought the Dairy Queen from Scott Vaubel who owned it for 10 years. When he isn’t busy at the Dairy Queen, Kral farms, growing corn, beans and raising cattle near Sleepy Eye and Comfrey.
