James Arthur Rose was born on Wednesday, November 22, 1961 at the Loretto Hospital in New Ulm to Richard, Sr. and Darlain (Soeffker) Rose while they were living in New Ulm. Jim was baptized in New Ulm and his sponsors were Bud (Gilbert) and Marlene Rose of New Ulm. He was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington and graduated from Arlington-Green Isle High School, AGI Class of 1980. He took a year off and worked at Big Stone Canning Company in Arlington, then got a Plumbing Degree from St. Cloud Vocational School, 1981-1982. Back to work at Big Stone until he started at Technical Services for Electronics (TSE) in Arlington with his sister, Darla in January 1984.

While at TSE he met and married Janice Schwartz the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 28, 1987. He started at Bongard’s Creamery shortly after their wedding. Jim and Janice lived in Arlington and were blessed with a daughter, Sammi, born on St. Patrick’s Day 1989. Jim worked at Bongard’s until 2006, then moved on to Gedney Foods in Chaska. He worked there until April of 2019; the rest of that year he had three back surgeries, but none relieved the on-going leg numbness he suffered from the multiple back and neck injuries. He also had even more on-going health issues for the next two years, until his body could take no more and he passed away quietly at his home on April 28, 2021.

Jim was a very good wrestler and he had many hobbies including Demolition Derby, bowling, horse shoes, hunting, fishing and ice fishing, camping and RVing, cooking and grilling. In 1991, a challenge from a friend, Phyllis Hummel launched a new career as an Elvis impersonator. He entertained many in and around Arlington and Cokato over the years – it was something he was very proud of and enjoyed tremendously.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Darlain and Richard Rose, Sr.; grandparents Ernest and Emma Soeffker and Arthur and Lily Rose; good friend Joel Tewes. He is survived by his wife Janice; daughter Sammi Rose and fiance’ Tyler Sickler; grandson Connor Sickler; siblings Rick (Lorie) Rose, Darla (Dave) Felmlee, Tony (Jenny) Rose; sisters-in-law Audrey Borchert, Madrienne (Donnie) Weber and Arlene Keske and many other relatives, neighbors and close friends.

Things we’ll always remember about Jim: getting dressed up and looking really sharp, dancing to the Bangles, Meatloaf, Queen, the radio blaring with his oldies music everywhere he went, wearing sunglasses on his forehead, buying a new pair of sunglasses every week because he lost the last pair, the fantastic paint jobs on his demolition cars, his award winning Chili, his Snap Crackle Pop pajamas, fishing with dear friends, ‘Every rose has its Thorne’, burning his eyebrows off trying to light a grill (not once, but twice), always misplacing his keys, wallet and phone, sitting around the campfire and laughing till our sides hurt, his booming voice (Jim did not know how to whisper), visiting his dad at the Nursing Home every Sunday, doing anything for Sammi and Tyler, playing with and teasing his grandson Connor and his unbelievable Elvis performances.

We are so very thankful for your support during this difficult time. Your kind thoughts, words and remembrances mean so much. Please continue to keep us in your prayers and Jim in your memories. Thank you – Janice, Sammi, Tyler and Connor.
