Steven “Steve” Allen Melzer was born January 25, 1950, in New Ulm to Alton and Marion (Schapekahm) Melzer. He attended grade school at St. Paul’s Lutheran School, and was a 1968 graduate from New Ulm High School. After confirmation at the request of his mentor, Ted Pelzel, he joined the St. Paul’s Mixed Choir and sang with them for over 55 years. He was united in marriage to Ginger Sugden on September 15, 1973, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. This union blessed the couple with a daughter and son whom together they raised in rural Courtland. Steve worked his career as a dedicated and hardworking dairy farmer, as well with Dittrich Specialties in New Ulm. One of his proudest moments was when he was bestowed with the degree of National American Farmer at the National FFA Convention in 1971. Steve was a devout member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm where he was not only active in the church choir, but was also a dedicated supporter of all MVL and MLC arts and athletic programs. As a proud farmer, Steve was locally a member of the HUB Club. Besides his family, Steve’s greatest loves were singing and his Holstein cows! Blessed be his memory.
