Jeanne Marilyn Gehrke was born September 15, 1934 Elton and Grace (Jensen) Gehrke in New Ulm. She married Donald Cordes on June 3, 1954 in Norwood County, Iowa. They were blessed with four children whom together they raised in the home that Don had built in New Ulm. Jeanne was a 1952 graduate of New Ulm High School and later she graduated from Mankato State with a degree in Education. She taught many years at Washington Elementary School and retired in 1991. After retirement she and Don enjoyed traveling, fishing, boating and spending time with their family at the trailer house on Lake Mille Lacs and their hunting cabin on Swan Lake.
Jeanne was active at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where she enjoyed Bible Study Class and it’s members. She also enjoyed her sewing group, going to eat with the “widow’s” group and she could be found listening to the bands on Monday Music in the Park, Bavarian Blast, October Fest and Friday nights and the Grand. She also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, boating, 4-wheeling, gardening, camping, attending New Ulm Steel games and relaxing by the lake. While at home she enjoyed reading and puzzles.
She made every holiday very special and will be deeply missed. Her sunny disposition made it wonderful to be with her.
