Frank A. Lindmeyer Jr. was born June 5, 1931, in New Ulm to Frank Sr. and Sophie (Brey) Lindmeyer. He attended schools in New Ulm. Frank married Betty Pfarr on July 29, 1950, in New Ulm. He worked at Schell’s Brewery before moving to the Dakotas, where he was a steel tower lineman. Later they moved back to New Ulm where he worked as a welder at New Ulm manufacturing, Ray-Go, and Caterpillar for 37 years until retiring.
Frank had a great love for music, and enjoyed using his musical talents to entertain others. At the age of 17, he started the beginning of a lifelong career of bringing his talents to the stage. Playing the guitar with the KNUJ Trailriders was just the beginning. Through the years, Frank played banjo with many old tyme bands including: The Jolly Germans, Elmer Scheid and Ervin Suess. But his biggest dream came true when he and his sons formed a family band – The City and Country Cousins. They played in the New Ulm Area for several years.
After retirement, Frank and his wife, Betty, spent their winters in Lake Havasu City, AZ. There, they and a friend continued entertaining other retirees forming a band called “The Havasu 3” – in which Frank showed off more of his musical talent playing the concertina. He also brought much joy to residents of local senior citizen homes, as his love for entertaining showed through the concertina music he played.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm, and the German Bohemian Heritage Society. Frank was also a member of I AM Union and the Catholic Aid Association for over 50 years. Frank enjoyed his grandchildren and the sports they were active in, and playing concertina at various nursing homes in the area. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Blessed be his memory.
The family kindly requests that no flowers be sent and donations preferred to the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye or to Donor’s Choice.
