Tom Renner

God brought home at the age of 61, a special son, brother, uncle and friend, Tom Renner, to be with his mother, Marlys, on Aug. 17, 2022; with his family close by.

Tom was born on Jan. 24, 1961, in New Ulm to Marlys and Ronald Renner of Courtland. Tom was well-known around town. He attended New Ulm Public Schools and participated in Special Olympics. His first job was at Super Sweet Research Farm in Courtland, which he truly enjoyed. He later moved to New Ulm, living in several different group homes. Tom held various community-based jobs in New Ulm and at MRCI. The last few months Tom enjoyed spending time at EASE.

Tom’s passions in life were to share his infectious smile and grin. He loved waving “Hi” to everyone he saw. He was a friend to everyone and enjoyed having a drink and chat with anyone. He loved eating out and having a burger ‘n’ fries. He was always ready to go anywhere. He loved going to family cabin on Nest Lake in Spicer, Minnesota, where he enjoyed endless hours fishing on his paddle boat. You would often see Tom riding his bike or driving his three-wheeler around town. While relaxing indoors, you would often find Tom flipping channels on the TV or repeating his favorite country music songs over and over again and again on his boombox. Tom was loved by everyone and will dearly be missed by his family.

Tom is survived by his father, Ronald Renner of New London, formerly of Courtland; sister, Gwen (Brian) Lewison of Hopkins; brother, Tim (Audrey) Renner of New London; sister, Heidi (Jeff) Johnson of Hopkins; special cousin/sister Tami (Tom) Ratte’ of White Bear Lake; and by many nephews and nieces and many relatives.

He is proceeded in death by his mother, Marlys Renner, grandparents, Henry Sr. and Christine Martens, Arthur and Amy Renner and niece, Nina Olson.

A celebration of life will be on Saturday Sept. 24, 2022, at Courtland Evangelical Lutheran Church in Courtland. Visitation will be one hour before the services at 2 p.m., with a social time to follow and to share stories about Tom at the Courtland Recreation Center. Private family interment will be at a later date. Go spread your joy of life in Heaven and say “Hi” to mom for us, till we meet again! WE LOVE YOU!
