Barb is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Tony Ubl of rural New Ulm; her daughter, Julie (P.J.) Dahanaike of Kasson; her grandchildren, Cassidy, Emily, and Adrian; her sisters, Beverly (Dan) Christiaens of Butte, Montana, Mary (Dave) Hennegar of Mankato; her brother, Charles (Suda) Mathwig of Eagle River, Alaska; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Janice Mathwig; and her brother, Rick Mathwig.
Barbara Kay Mathwig was born September 6, 1951, in Mankato to Henry and Janice (Goings) Mathwig. Growing up in Mankato, Barb was a 1969 graduate from Mankato West High School. She was united in marriage to Tony Ubl on April 9, 1983, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Together the couple made their home in the country in rural New Ulm. Barb worked a 20-year career as a supervisor at Dietrich Specialties in New Ulm, and in her retirement, served breakfasts at the Best Western in New Ulm. Besides her work, there were a variety of hobbies she enjoyed in life. She loved working outside, doing arts and crafts, caring for her animals, and spending time on the lake fishing. She also loved a good game of cribbage, which she was always a great opponent in. What she loved most in life was time she got to spend with her family, especially with her grandchildren. Barb will forever be remembered for her caring heart. She always put the needs of others before her own, and especially loved getting to treat her grandkids. Although her passing seems so sudden and unexpected, countless memories of Barb will forever stay in the hearts of all who had the privilege of having her in their lives. Blessed be her memory.
