It is with a heavy heart and a roll of duct tape that we bid farewell to our beloved Doug, a man of law enforcement and a master of innovative home improvement techniques. Doug’s untimely departure at the age of 57 has left us all stunned, and the world a little less patched together.
The legacy Doug leaves behind isn’t just one of crime-fighting and household repair adventures, though. It’s the memories of laughter and camaraderie he shared with those lucky enough to cross his path. His unmistakable wit and infectious charm had a way of brightening even the darkest days. Whether he was cracking a joke around the fire or sitting on his “slightly structurally unsound” deck, Doug knew how to make every moment count.
Doug will be sorely missed by his adoring family, who still wonder why the front door is being held together by love and warmth…and nothing else.
But as we remember him, we need to call out the profound impact he had on those closest to him. His beloved wife Kim, the most important person in his life, stood by his side through thick and thin. Alongside Kim, his children Ellanna, Jacob, Quin, and Zach were his pride and joy, bringing him endless happiness and love. His parents Richard and Sharon instilled in Doug a strong work ethic and guidance and his siblings Tami and Jim’s unwavering belief in him helped shaped the man he became.
The presence of his family illuminated Doug’s life, and his legacy lives on through them.
Now, let us not forget that Doug was the best ‘Papa’ anyone could ask for. From teaching his grandchildren how to fish to pretending to listen attentively to the latest video game and sports news, he cared deeply and selflessly. His presence in their lives brought warmth and joy, and his love knew no bounds. Doug was truly the epitome of what it means to be a loving and devoted grandfather, and that was the most anyone could ever ask for.
In honor of Doug’s memory, we’re holding a celebration of his life at Squirrel’s Bar & Grill in Fairfax on June 17th, 2023 from 4-7pm.
Even if you’re unable to attend, please consider making a donation to the “Duct Tape Foundation for the Advancement of Home Repair Techniques” (don’t worry, that’s not a real thing) or simply take a moment to reflect on the joy you felt while spending time with someone who reminds you of Doug. Remember, life may not always follow the blueprint we expect, but with a bit of creativity and a whole lot of laughter, we can tape it all back together.
Rest in peace, dear Doug. May your spirit forever roam the halls of justice and the aisles of hardware stores, forever armed with a roll of duct tape and a smile that could fix even the most broken of hearts.
In the words of Doug “He gone.”
