Dorothy Claire Christian, age 91, of New Ulm died peacefully with family at her side on Thursday evening, November 21, 2024, at the New Ulm Medical Center
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 am on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Father Mark Steffl will celebrate the Mass, and burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
The Christian Mothers will pray the rosary at 4pm on Tuesday at the Cathedral in New Ulm.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 pm on Tuesday, November 26th and continue from 10-11 am on Wednesday, November 27th all at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes-North Chapel in New Ulm.

Dorothy was born on October 18, 1933 to Clarence and Mary (Fleck) Wech in New Ulm. She graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic High School in 1951. After graduation, she worked at Eagle Roller Mill, the New Ulm City Clerk’s Office, and Christian Construction.
Dorothy married Harry Christian on June 8, 1953, at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. They lived in Shreveport, Louisiana for a short period of time, and settled in New Ulm to work and raise their family.
Their union blessed them with four children: Mary Jo (Rick) Zupfer, Patti (Bryon Ubl) Groebner, David (Deb) Christian, and Paulette (Doug) Kral.
Dorothy was proud to have served as an American Red Cross volunteer at Highland Manor, Union Hospital, and Loretto Hospital.
Dorothy served as a Guild Chair for Cathedral Church, and she was a member of the St. Elizabeth Society and Christian Mother’s.
She enjoyed the Linden Street Ladies’ Coffee Club, the Kraft Retirees’ Wives Lunch Group, 500 Card Club, and Aqua Exercise Classes followed by visits to Perkins for pie and coffee.
Dorothy and Harry enjoyed traveling across the United States and Canada in their motor home, with annual trips to Phoenix, AZ; Washington, DC; and Mount Rushmore, SD.
Visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the highlight of any day.
She is survived by her children, her brother Joseph Wech, grandchildren, great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Her grandchildren include Peter (Carmen) Zupfer, Sarah (Jeremy) Goettl, Ryan (Alexandra) Christian, David (Erin Mallory) Groebner, Katie (Eric) Christian Brunn, Kylee (Alec) Rasmussen, Mitchell Christian, Scott (Jenny) Kral, Jenny (Richard) Krohn, Joseph (Amanda) Kral, Brad (Tammy Jakes) Meyer, David (Megan) Meyer.
Her great grandchildren include Josef, Evie, Jaxon, Jasen, Harald, Charles, Audrey, Carter, Quinn, Ruth, Jeffrey, Brooke, Mason, Matthew, Nathan, Jacob, Claire, and Emma.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Harry Christian; sisters and brothers in law, Rosemary (Curt) Zupfer, Donna (Ken) Forstner; brother Dick Wech; sister-in-law, Arlene Wech; her parents, Clarence and Mary Wech; and in-laws, Rosemary (Ed) Groebner, and Walter (Altha) Christian.
Heartfelt thanks to the Allina Hospice Care Team for the compassionate care that Dorothy and her family received.
Grandma Dorothy will always be remembered for her favorite saying, “If your good days outnumber your bad days, you have a good life.”
