RURAL GIBBON–Glen Blaalid, age 78 of rural Gibbon, died on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at his home.
A memorial service will be at 11am on Monday, December 23, 2024 at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH chapel with Pastor Kathleen Ulland-Klinkner officiating. Burial will take place in Clear Lake Norwegian Cemetery in rural Gibbon. Full military honors will be provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH chapel and will continue from 10-11am on Monday, prior to the service at the funeral home. Glen is survived by his brother, DeWayne Blaalid of Gibbon; sister, Margie (Jerry) Buerkle of Spring Valley, WI; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Bernell Blaalid; sister-in-law, Elaine Blaalid.
Glen Arnold Blaalid was born January 16, 1946 in New Ulm to Palmer and Esther (Gregory) Blaalid. He attended and graduated from New Ulm High School in 1964. Following high school, Glen spent 4 years in the United States Army, serving 2 of those years in Vietnam. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Glen was employed with Kraft, Shari Candies, and New Ulm Grocery. He was also the caretaker for his parents until their deaths. Glen was an antique dealer and always enjoyed going to flea markets and garage sales. He was artistically inclined, whether it was painting, rosemaling, or any other forms of art. Many memories were made with Glen over his lifetime. He will be dearly missed. Blessed be his memory.
