NEW ULM–Carol Giefer, age 82 of New Ulm, died Monday, January 6, 2025 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. A funeral service will be at 11am on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH chapel with Father Tanner Thooft officiating. Ennichement will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery Columbarium. Visitation will be held from 9-11am on Saturday at the funeral home, prior to the service. Carol is survived by her brother, Tom (Betty) Giefer of New Ulm; nieces, Lisa (Dan) Steffl of Sleepy Eye and Joan (Mark) Johnson of North Mankato; nephews, Jay Giefer of New Ulm and John (Renee) Giefer of Courtland; 11 great-nieces and nephews; 2 great-great nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Carol Ann Giefer was born October 24, 1942 in Nicollet to Theodore and Alice (Bierbaum) Giefer. She was a 1960 graduate of Nicollet High School and went on to further her education at St. Cloud Nurses College, where she graduated in 1963. Carol worked as a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth for the majority of her career. She was active with the Red Hats Society for many years. She enjoyed traveling, crafting, and collecting Hummels and antiques. Carol had a special love for her cats, Buttons, Bows, and Meringue. She made candy for her family and never missed sending a card for birthdays or other holidays. Carol was loved by her family and will be missed dearly. Blessed be her memory.
