WINTHROP–Georgia M. Messner, age 89, of Winthrop passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Bayside Manor in Gaylord. Funeral Service will be Thursday, January 9, 2025, 11:00 A.M. at the Apostolic Christian Church in Winthrop with interment in the Winthrop Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Georgia Mayone (Johnson) Messner was born on April 22, 1935, in New Sweden Township, Nicollet County, MN. She was the daughter of George W.A. and Fern (Lewellen) Johnson. Georgia received her education at District 13 County School in Nicollet County and Gaylord Public High School.

On June 9, 1952, Georgia Johnson was united in marriage to Leo Messner in Nicollet County, MN. This marriage was blessed with three children, Tony, Ron and Dixie. Georgia was employed by Gaylord Public Schools as a cook for 31 years, retiring in 1993. Leo and Georgia resided in the Gaylord area until Leo passed away. Then she moved to Winthrop. Before Leo’s passing, they enjoyed several winters in Zapata, TX.

After a few years of marriage, Georgia and Leo made a decision to surrender their lives to Christ and were long time members of the Apostolic Christian Church in Winthrop. They served as the World Relief (humanitarian missions) coordinators for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, entertaining and traveling. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Georgia had an accident in 2015 that left her in a motorized wheelchair for almost 10 years. Her patience and contentment will forever be remembered.

Georgia passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Bayside Manor in Gaylord, MN, at the age of 89 years.

Georgia is survived by her sons, Tony Messner and his wife, Nancy of Hancock, MN, and Ron Messner and his wife, Pam of Morton, IL; daughter, Dixie Messner of Winthrop, MN; grandchildren, Michael (Rachel), Andrew (Kara), David (Bethany), Jonathan (Holly), Daniel (Kasey), Heather (Aaron) Walder, Mark (Laura) and Mayone Messner; 31 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Marlyn Messner; many nieces and nephews.

Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Messner; parents, George W.A. and Fern Johnson; sisters, Lois and her husband, Donald Menk, Shirley and her husband, Willis Witty; In-laws, Delores and her husband, Cornelius Messerli, Elaine and her husband, Ray Rettig, Roland and his wife, Melva Messner, Lois (Marlyn) Messner, Rose Alice and her husband, Roy Howk, and Avice and her husband, Willmar Lehrke.
