Luther “Wally” Larson

NEW ULM­–Luther “Wally” Larson, age 94, of New Ulm, and formerly Hanska, died on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the Prairie Senior Cottages in New Ulm.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska, with Pastor Bob Stover officiating. Burial with full military honors accorded by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm, and will continue one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Wally is survived by his wife, Annette of Hanska; sons, Chad (Jodi) Larson of New Ulm, Craig (Kathy) Larson of New Ulm, Clyde (Kelly) Larson of Hanska, and Clay (Johanna) Larson of Hanska; daughter, Carla (Kenny) Berg of New Ulm; seventeen grandchildren, Kayla (Mark) Weinkauf, Megan Larson, Michael (Jordyn) Larson, Katie (Hunter) King, Kevin Larson, Kristi Larson, Mallory Larson, Nash Larson, Nolan Larson, Hudson Larson, Alyssa (Chris) Birman, Nicholas (Mailee) Larson, Lucas (Abby) Larson, Leah Larson, Tucker Berg, Addley Berg, and Cooper Berg; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-n-law, Deanna Anderson of Arkansas, Deanne Pizel of Hanska, and Lydia Parker of Birchwood; brothers-in-law, Ron (Sharon) Pizel of New Ulm, Ken (Darlene) Pizel of Owatonna, and Tom Lastine of New Ulm; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Chet Larson; granddaughter, Rebecca Larson; parents, Melvin and Arlene Larson; brother, Charles “Chuck” Larson; sister-in-law, Norma Larson; parents-in-law, Don & Stella Pizel; sister-in-law, Carolyn “Tootie” Lastine; and brothers-in-law, Charles Pizel, Doug Pizel, and Warren Pizel.

Luther Wallace Larson was born on March 24, 1930 in Lake Hanska Township to Melvin & Arlene (Brudelie) Larson. He attended Lake Hanska Country School and then Hanska High School. Wally served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 and the Reserves from 1953-1957. Wally was united in marriage to Annette Pizel on January 11, 1964 at Zion Lutheran Church. He was a lifelong farmer until his retirement. In his earlier years, he was very active in the American Legion and VFW, Hanska Fire Department, Zion Lutheran Church, and served on many boards including the Hanska City Council, School Board, and the Farmers Coop of Hanska. Wally enjoyed hunting and fishing in Canada and Northern Minnesota, ice fishing, church league softball, baseball, bowling, golf, and playing cards.
