NORTH MANKATO–Sandra (Sandy) Marie Polzin, age 88 of North Mankato, formerly of Nicollet, MN passed away on January 16, 2025, peacefully at Oak Terrace Senior Living in North Mankato surrounded by family. Visitation is Monday, January 20th from 4-7 p.m. at Trinity Nicollet. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 21st 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Nicollet, with visitation from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.
Sandy is survived by three sons and one daughter: Joel Polzin (Lisa Stein) of Nicollet, Dale (Debbie) Polzin of Nicollet, Rachel (Warren) Krohn of Nicollet, and Paul (Kelly) Polzin of Courtland. Grandchildren: Bryant (Abigail) Polzin of Sioux Falls, SD; Beth (Brandon) Filzen of New Ulm; Benjamin (Jessie) Polzin of Hugo; Cole Polzin of Minneapolis; Zachary Polzin of Minneapolis, Brent Krohn (Emily Griebel & Lucy) of Nicollet, Kelsey (Justin) Horn of Courtland, Bryce Krohn of Nicollet, Andrew (Amanda) Renner of Courtland. Great-Grandchildren: Hannah, Rory & Jacob Polzin; Liza, Larken & Lottie Filzen; Siri, Mara, Ilia & Owen Polzin; Karis, Logan, Lincoln & Claire Horn; Owen, Vivien & Evren Renner. She is survived by three of the best brothers a girl could ever have: Dave (Rita) Holtebeck of Reno, NV; Don (Linda) Holtebeck of Waupaca, WI and Charlie (Chris) Holtebeck of Ladysmith, WI; and 7 nephews.
Sandy was proceeded in death by her husband, Rev. Ralph J. Polzin (July 2009); Parents, Martin & Selma Holtebeck and Sister-in-Law Joan Holtebeck.
Sandy was born February 26, 1936 in her grandma’s farmhouse in Scandanavia, WI, to Martin & Selma (Thorson) Holtebeck. She was baptized and confirmed at Scandinavian Lutheran Church. Sandy grew up on the family farm, as the oldest of 4 children. Sandy graduated Valedictorian from Scandinavia High School in 1954, then went on to Milwaukee County Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1958. Sandy met Ralph Polzin while attending school in Milwaukee, the couple married on August 28, 1960 in Waupaca, WI. The union blessed them with four children, Joel, Dale, Rachel and Paul. Together they raised their family in Nicollet, MN. Sandy was an RN and started her career at Milwaukee County General Hospital in the Operating Room, then she went to Union Hospital and Highland Mannor Nursing Home in New Ulm, and retired from Grandview Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. Peter, MN where she worked for many years. It brought her great joy attending her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s concerts, sporting events and activities. Sandy was blessed with a beautiful voice and used her gifts in the church choir. She was a talented pianist and enjoyed playing piano in her home well into her 80s. Sandy was a member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet, MN and was a member of the Trinity Ladies Guild.
Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church or MVL Building on the Rock.
