NEW ULM–Gene Rolloff, 87, of New Ulm died Friday, January 31, 2025 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm surrounded by his family.Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM Friday, February 7, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm.The New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor will provide Military Honors. Gene is survived by his wife, Joan Rolloff of New Ulm; daughters, Deb (Bryan) Clancy of Courtland, Lori (Bill) Bauer of Sleepy Eye; sons, Duane Rolloff and Daniel Rolloff both of New Ulm; grandchildren Eric (Jen) Pierson, Ryan (Rebecca) Pierson, Rae (Jake) Holm, Taylor (Ashlei) Rolloff, Justin (Lindsey) Bauer, Josh (Crystal) Bauer and Corey Holden; and by 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lorna (Albert) Mangen, Irene (Tony) VanOverbeke; and by his brothers, Vernon (Alice) Rolloff, Wes (Jan) Rolloff and Cal (Jean) Rolloff.
Gene Warren Rolloff was born January 28, 1938 in New Ulm to Herman and Oralia (Lambrecht) Rolloff. He attended New Ulm schools and was a 1955 graduate of New Ulm High School. Gene served in the US Army January, 1956 – January 1958. He was united in marriage to Joan Haas on September 12, 1961 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm where he was a member and together they raised four children. After marriage Gene was employed at Kraft Foods and also farmed with family. He eventually took over the family farm until his retirement in 2003.
Gene was instrumental in helping establish the Milford Country 4-H Club and delighted in helping his kids with their projects. He also helped coach Jr. Bi-county baseball in Essig as well as playing on numerous baseball and softball teams himself. Gene was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed many years of camping at Lake Haven Acres, Longville, MN. Papa Gene especially enjoyed attending his kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities and handing out M&M’s. His fun loving spirit will be missed by many especially his morning coffee crew at Carl’s Corner. Blessed be his memory.
