Burnell Osberg

COURTLAND–Burnell Osberg, age 81, of Courtland passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Courtland Evangelical Lutheran Church in Courtland. Pastor David Linn will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2025 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – North Chapel in New Ulm. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Courtland Evangelical Lutheran Church in Courtland. Born to Paul and Mary Havemeier in New Ulm. Burnell grew up in rural Courtland. She attended parochial school in Courtland and graduated from Nicollet High School. She met Edward Osberg Jr. and married the love of her life on June 24, 1961. They had two children – Rick Osberg and Ann Bergemann. After spending much of her youth on the farm, Burnell worked in food service from 1965 to 1994 locally at The Cat & Fiddle supper club, Holiday House supper club and at Martin Luther College. Burnell and Eddie spent all their time together, sharing time in many activities. Burnell loved her faith, her family, friends and neighbors, her siblings and especially being a twin. She enjoyed fishing, biking, camping, boating, walking, card clubs, baking (especially the most delicious varieties of pies), polka music and dancing, tending to her flower gardens, and following the local ball teams. She contributed service and leadership to her church groups and committees in addition to volunteering at the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Treasure Haus of New Ulm and the American Red Cross by donating blood and volunteering at the Red Cross for many years.

Burnell was proceeded in death by her parents, Paul and Mary (Henge) Havemeier, brothers Clarence and Lorna Havemeier, Raymond and Imelda Havemeier, Jerome Havemeier, Paul and Margaret Havemeier Jr., Paul’s second wife LaVerna Havemeier, Dennis Havemeier, Burnell’s sisters Dorothy (Havemeier) and Lester Shellum and Betty (Havemeier) and Harris Buboltz and many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her ever-loving husband Edward Osberg, Jr., children Rick Osberg and Reneé Kostner Osberg, Ann and Ron Bergemann, grandchildren Jacob Osberg, Martin Osberg, Emily Bergemann, step grandchildren, Katie (Andrew) Peltier, Brittany (Dylan) Woitas, Katie Bergemann (Nick Winnings), sisters Burnett (Franklin) Pearse and Vercille (Dale) Class, sisters in law Margaret Havemeier and Bonnie Havemeier, and many nieces, nephews, and step great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to MVL, Courtland Evangelical Lutheran Church, or donor’s choice.
