Narve Nelson

Narve Nelson, age 97, of New Ulm died peacefully with family by his side on Monday, March 3, 2025 at his home in Bernadotte Township, following a two-day hospitalization.
Visitation to be held Wednesday, March 26, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm. Pastor Nick Scutari will officiate the memorial service to be held Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the church, with one hour visitation prior to the service. Luncheon will follow immediately after the service at the church.
No burial at this time as Narve has donated his body to Mayo Clinic, Rochester to further medical research. His ashes will be laid to rest at a later date in the Lakeview Cemetery in Brighton Township next to his beloved wife, Vreela.

Narve is survived by sons, Brian and Kevin (Judy); daughter Kari (Paul) Gleisner. Grandchildren Jacqueline (August) Arrigo of Chicago; Jenna Gleisner (John Bork) of Brighton, MI; and Jorey Gleisner of New Ulm; and great-granddaughters, Alivia & Alexandra Arrigo; brother, Thorild (Ardith) Nelson; sister-in-law Connie (Mike) Hatch; and many nieces, nephews, and his relatives in Norway.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Vreela in 2019; parents Gottfred and Alice (Peterson) Nelson; parents-in-law, Otis and Mildred Muller; his brother and sister-in-law, Einar and Marlys Nelson; and sisters-in-law, Mavis (Marion) Woods, Sharon (Ronald) Hulke.
Narve Alfred Nelson was born July 9, 1927 at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, MN to Norwegian parents Gottfred and Alice (Peterson) Nelson.
Narve was raised on the farm near Swan Lake which was established in 1856 by his great-grandfather Guldbrand Peterson. He graduated from Nicollet High School in 1945, served in the Army from 1945-1947 on Adak Island, Alaska. He attended Ag School in St. Paul from 1948-1950. On October 11, 1952, he married his love, Vreela Yvonne Muller. They were blessed with three children, Brian, Kevin, and Kari whom they raised on their farm in Bernadotte Township. Narve farmed for 60 years and with his brothers, Einar & Tory operated Nelson Brothers Tiling for 59 years, retiring at age 86. He made many new friends during his last 8 months at Ridgeway on 23rd.
Narve loved meeting people, telling stories, ice fishing, and learning about his Norwegian heritage. He traveled to Norway four times and met many cousins, and visited his father’s birthplace. His last trip was taken at age 90. He loved his family dearly and was a great friend to many. Cherished memories of Narve will live on in all who knew and loved him. Blessed be his memory.
