Maxine is survived by her husband of over 57 years, Harold Remme of New Ulm; sons, Bruce (Carie) Remme of Duluth, Brian (Kim) Remme of Hastings; son-in-law, Cole (Beth) Flick; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Beth Ann Flick in 2017; and her brother, Tom Helling.
Maxine Ann Helling was born May 22, 1942 to Marlowe and Alice (Case) Helling. She was raised on the family farm outside of Hanska and graduated from Hanska Public High School in 1960. She earned her teaching degree from Mankato State University and began her career as an elementary school teacher in Kenyon, MN. During that time, she met Harold Remme at a high school basketball game. The two were united in marriage on August 19, 1967 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska. The couple then moved to Winona and continued teaching there.
Shortly after marriage, the couple started their family together in Winona. Their teaching careers brought them and their family to Tracy, where Maxine raised her family and worked as a special education teacher in Balaton. The family moved once more and settled in New Ulm, where Maxine worked as a special education teacher in Sleepy Eye. She later worked as a statewide special education trainer until she retired. Upon retirement, Maxine worked part time at the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce
Outside of work, Maxine led a social and full life. Her faith was central to her, always keeping active with the church wherever she was living at the time. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends, completing puzzles, knitting, attending Gopher football and basketball games, and spending time in any way she could with her beloved grandchildren. Many fond memories were made traveling with Larry & Sue Hunstad, especially to Branson, Missouri, and going to countless sporting events to watch her grandchildren play.
Maxine will be dearly missed by those that knew her. Blessed be her memory.
