NEW ULM–Dorothy Louise Kock, age 96 of New Ulm died on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center in Sleepy Eye.Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Pastor Rob Guenther will officiate, and burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.Visitation will be from 10-11 am on Thursday at the church prior to the service. The Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes of New Ulm are assisting the family with arrangements at this time. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Jeneane (Steven) Thiesfeldt of Saginaw, Michigan; her sons, Jerome Kock of Miamisburg, Ohio, Mark (Ruth) Kock of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Rev. Norval L. (Kathleen) Kock of Manitowoc, Wisconsin; her 11 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hulda, and Theodore Bauer; her step-mother, Hulda (Marten) Bauer; her husband, Rev. Norval W. Kock in 2004; her daughter-in-law, Margaret Kock; her sister, and brother-in-law, Eileen and Murl Remmele; her brothers, and sisters-in-law, Otto and Dorothy Bauer, Gerhard and Elvera Bauer, Karl Bauer, H. Paul and Elizabeth Bauer; and infant twin brothers, Edmund and Sigmund Bauer.

Dorothy Louise Bauer was born September 17, 1928, in Akaska, South Dakota to Reverend Theodore and Hulda (Lechner) Bauer. Dorothy became a child of God through her baptism as an infant, and later through her confirmation on May 24, 1942, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Echo, Minnesota. Throughout her life, Dororthy’s faith was strengthened through the Gospel in Word and Sacrament. Dorothy attended public school in Echo, MN, Dr. Martin Luther High School, and later Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota. She taught for several years in the Lutheran Elementary schools in Goodhue, Minnesota, and Hortonville, Wisconsin.

Dorothy married Rev. Norval Waldo Kock on June 17, 1951. This union blessed the couple with four children. During their marriage of 51 years, Dorothy lived in LaCrosse, WI, Rockford, MN, Wood Lake, MN, Manitowoc, WI, before settling in New Ulm, MN. Throughout her life, Dorothy enjoyed sharing her creative side. From the ceramics she created, or through her musical gifts, Dorothy enjoyed sharing her talents with others. What brought her the most joy in life was always her family. She had a love for teaching children, and instilled this same love to her own children. She was a devout member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. May these memories and the countless others forever stay in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her.
