Anthony “Tony” Leo Sellner was born on February 17, 1939, in Sleepy Eye to Arnold and Martha (Domeier) Sellner. Growing up in New Ulm, Tony was a 1957 graduate from Holy Trinity High School. Tony went on to further his education at Mankato Commercial College where he attained his degree in accounting. Tony proudly served his country for six years in the Minnesota Army National Guard, where he attained the rank of Sergeant E-5 and served as Squad Leader 11D40. On November 26, 1960, Tony was united in marriage to the love of his life, Darlene Ranweiler at St. George Catholic Church. Together they were blessed with their daughter, Mary, whom they lovingly raised in New Ulm. Throughout his career, Tony worked at several establishments in New Ulm, including Frandsen Bank and Trust (1962-1974), Alwin Electric Appliance in bookkeeping (1974-1983), New Ulm Public Utilities (1983-2004), and most recently in retirement at St. Michael’s Housing where he worked in maintenance until 2019. Tony was a man of many talents and passions–he especially enjoyed working with his hands in his woodshop and was a proud member of the Minnesota Woodworkers Guild. He also found great satisfaction in remodeling and making repairs around his home, always taking pride in keeping it well-maintained and welcoming. Tony had a lifelong love of Cushman Motor Scooters and was a member of the Cushman Club of America. Tony took great pride in the little things–he found joy in keeping his lawn perfectly manicured and always kept his car and truck in pristine condition. His attention to detail reflected the care he brought to every part of his life. As a devout Catholic, Tony was a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm, where he faithfully served for over 50 years as an usher. He was also active in Catholic United Financial. Above all, Tony dearly loved his family and cherished the time spent with them. Tony’s kind spirit, strong work ethic, perfectionism, and unwavering faith will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. Blessed be his memory.
