Ruth Skoglund

June 11, 1925-April 9, 2025

NEW ULM–Ruth Skoglund, 99, of New Ulm, died Wednesday April 9, 2025, at All Saints Senior Living in Shakopee.

Funeral service will be Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 11 a.m at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Rev. Kathleen Ulland-Klinkner officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday April 19, from 10-11 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Ruth Lenore Olson, daughter of Oscar and Florence Olson, was born on June 11, 1925, in Tracy, MN. As a child, she moved with her family to Winona, MN. After graduating from Winona High School, Ruth entered nursing school at Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, graduating as a Registered Nurse. Ruth met her husband, L. Victor “Vic” Skoglund, who was attending the University of Minnesota at the time. Vic and Ruth were married in Winona on December 18, 1948. They lived in New Ulm a number of years, and after the birth of their daughter, moved to Richfield, where they raised their daughter and twin sons. They moved their family back to New Ulm in 1972.

Ruth’s R.N. career included surgical assisting in Minneapolis, nursing at the Oxboro Clinic in Bloomington and Emergency Room nursing in New Ulm.

Ruth was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she served as a Deacon. She was a member of WELCA, the quilters group and she also made infant layettes.

In retirement, Ruth volunteered at, and was a board member of, the MRCI Bargains store in New Ulm.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Evans of Prior Lake; son, Paul Skoglund and his wife Nance of Mahtomedi; son James and his wife Gail of Shakopee; five grandchildren, Brandon (Amanda) of Shakopee, Amanda (Elson) of Prior Lake, Stephanie (William) of Bloomington, Krista (Christopher) of Forest Lake and Daniel (Kade) of Owatonna; and eight great grandchildren, David, Gia, Blaine, Zylia, Lily, Estella, Hadley and Campbell.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Wendell and son-in-law Gail Wark.

Ruth’s family would like to thank the team with Grace Hospice and All Saints Senior Living for their loving care.
