Reusing tubs of yogurt and butter

Hints from Heloise

Dear Readers: Do not toss out margarine tubs or yogurt cups with lids. They can be reused to hold a variety of small items such as twist-ties, toothpicks, paper clips, magnets, push pins and corncob holders. — Heloise

PROTECTING

FAMILY PHOTOS

Dear Readers: Fires, floods and other disasters can happen, and all of your photos can get lost in the process. So, it’s important to take steps to preserve your valuable family photos. Get an extra set made or scan them into your computer. Be sure to store the extras in a safe place. And identify everyone in the photos! Write the date and place on the back of the photo. (Some cameras automatically do this.) — Heloise

REPLACING

TOOTHBRUSHES

Dear Heloise: Please remind everyone that after you recover from COVID (or any flu or illness), you need to replace your toothbrush or toothbrush head. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Thank you! — Pat Dunfee, Newark, Ohio

WINDSHIELD HAZE

Dear Heloise: I have been trying to rid my car windshield of a kind of haze, especially on the inside. Nothing works. And when light hits it from a certain angle, I basically cannot see. So, it’s getting dangerous. Vinegar doesn’t work, nor does Rain-X, water or a special cloth made for this purpose. But when I swipe it with my finger, it does clear a path! Any suggestions? — H.G., Houston

H.G., I suggest taking it to an auto mechanic for an examination, and this professional should be able to diagnose and solve your problem. — Heloise

A CLEAN SINK DRAIN

Dear Heloise: A friend gave me this great idea to use a toothbrush made for dentures to clean the sink drain in the kitchen. The brushes easily clean the crevices, creating a spotless drain! — N., in Ohio
