Senseless vandalism

To the editor:

In the spring and summer of 2024 Lake Hanska Area Association volunteers got together to clean up Geiger Point located on the west end of Lake Hanska, The group cut brush, removed trees and cleaned up driftwood for easier access to shore fishing, they also replaced the worn and faded “Adopt a Highway” sign and added “Geiger Point” signage. This is the same volunteer group that puts in the fishing docks both at Geiger Point and Godahl Landing and operates the aeration system. Geiger Point allows access to Lake Hanska for year round fishing and also hosts the annual Hanska Fireman fishing contest.

Recently someone vandalized the area by shooting holes in one of the signs which will now need to be replaced. The cost of the sign was $138. Whoever did this might want to think about what they did and realize that it was senseless to damage property at a public landing operated by volunteers and consider paying to replace the sign.
