Jace Marotz

J

r. MVL

Son of Todd and Jodie Marotz

• Marotz teamed up with teammate Derek Weisensel to throw a no-hitter against BLHS and earned the win as he pitched five innings, giving up no hits, one earned run, walking three batters and striking out seven. Weisensel went two innings, giving up no runs and no hits. He struck out one. Marotz added two hits in the win.

“Jace came into the season determined to be MVL’s number one pitcher,” MVL coach John Gunderson said. “His confidence is at an all-time high as he has been able to locate his pitches and get the upper hand over his opponents.”

Aaron Portner

Sr. Cathedral

Son of Brad and Bonnie Portner

Portner threw 55 pitches in a 12-0 no-hitter against Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s last Tuesday. He struck out five in his first career varsity no-hitter. He walked Nick Labat in the fourth inning, but he retired the final six batters he faced. He had two hits in the game.

“He appeared to be much more relaxed in his second start of the year,” Cathedral coach Bob Weier said. “Many first pitch strikes and ahead in the count. When Aaron is scheduled to start on the bump we are very confident we are going to get a good pitching performance.”

Starting at $4.38/week.
