On August 14 and 15, 10-year-old Ethan Schmidt of New Ulm competed in the 10- to 11-year-old age group at the Notah Begay III Regional Qualifier, which took place at The Meadows Golf Course at Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, Minnesota.
This was a par 72 set up totaling 5181 yards. Schmidt took eighth place out of 12 golfers in this two day, 36 hole tournament. Competitors came from as far as Texas and Arizona to compete in the tournament.
In his first round, Schmidt shot 82, and in the second round he shot 81.
Schmidt now qualifies for a 2024 exemption into the Regional Finals by placing top 10 in the tournament. Schmidt was grateful for the opportunity to play against some of the top 10- and 11-year-olds in the country. Schmidt looks forward to next year, being another year older, and a chance to move onto the National Championships which will be televised on the NBC Golf Channel.
