SEU stays undefeated with shutout of SJA

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye United retained a perfect record with a 27-0 win over St. James Area on Friday in a Southeast District, South Subdistrict football game.

The win was a double celebration for SEU because it was Homecoming for St. Mary’s. It also sets up a highway 14-battle against undefeated Springfield, who dominated Wabasso 53-20 on Friday. The teams play in Sleepy Eye next Friday.

Caden Evers had 165 yards passing and three touchdowns for United, while Cody Schultz had 67 yards rushing rushing and a touchdown. Talan Helget had 68 yards receiving with a touchdown

Caden Evers threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Austin Uecker at the 7:59 mark of the second quarter for SEU. Mark Anderson’s kick made it 7-0. With 49.9 seconds left, Evers tossed a 24-yard touchdown pass to Talan Helget. SJA blocked Anderson’s kick for the extra point and it was 13-0 SEU at halftime.

On fourth down and with 20 yards needed for a first down, Evers passed the ball to Kameron Kosak for a 25-yard gain and the first down. On the next play, with 10:12 left in the fourth quarter, Evers handled the ball off to Cody Schultz, who ran for a 3-yard touchdown. Evers handed the ball to Jon Petermann who scored for two extra points. The score was 21-0 SEU.

Evers tossed a 3-yard touchdown strike to Austin Uecker with 3:41 left in the contest. Anderson’s kick was blocked for the 27-0 final score.
