New Ulm hosts 6th annual hockey day
NEW ULM — The New Ulm Civic Center hosted Hockey Day New Ulm on Saturday, an event that lasted from 8:15 in the morning until 10 at night.
During the day, 16 separate hockey games were played, culminating in the New Ulm High School boys and girls varsity games against Marshall.
It was the sixth annual hockey day in New Ulm, and plenty of spectators attended the games and events that happened throughout the day. Hockey teams from Albert Lea and Mankato also competed, filling the Civic Center and the parking lot.
Aside from the youth hockey games, activities included a silent auction, games and contests, a cash raffle, and a hockey hair contest.
Along with the activities and games, the New Ulm Sleepy Eye Hockey Association presented the Tom Macho award to Jason Seidl after the first period of the boys varsity game. The Tom Macho award, named after New Ulm’s first hockey head coach in 1975, is awarded to an individual who has been instrumental to the success of the New Ulm hockey program, as well as to honor Macho’s legacy.
