Brewers beat Reds in baseball barn burner

NEW ULM — In a game that saw a seven-run and a five-run inning by Gibbon and a 10-run and six-run inning by New Ulm, it was the Brewers who came away with a win in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.
New Ulm scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to offset a five-run top of the inning by the Reds as the Brewers improved to 9-0 in the TEL with a 22-12 win over Gibbon.
The game was stopped because of the 10-run rule.
Corey Schaefer got the win for New Ulm.
Layton Hamre took the loss for Gibbon (2-10).
Colton Schaefer had three hits for the Brewers. Trevor Nissen had a double and triple with Cole Ranweiler and Ayden Jensen doubling. J.T. Hoffmann added a triple.
New Ulm out-hit Gibbon 18-11.
Gibbon took a 7-1 lead over the Brewers in the top of the third before New Ulm slowly pecked away with a run in the second.
New Ulm cut the lead to 7-4 in the fourth with two runs and then added single runs in the fifth and sixth before plating 10 runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Hoffmann’s triple scored a run and he scored on a Ranweiler double. A Nissen three run triple made it 16-7.
But Gibbon added five runs in the top of the eighth to cut the lead to 16-12.
The Brewers closed out the game with six runs in the bottom of the inning, ending it by the 10-run rule on an Andrew Peters hit.
New Ulm hosts Arlington Wednesday night a 7:30 at Johnson Park. Gibbon hosts St. James on Sunday at 1 p.m.
