ALEXANDRIA — New Ulm Junior Legion downed Chisago Lakes 22-7 in six innings in its opening game of the Alexandria Junior Legion Baseball Tournament on Friday.

The game was called after six innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

Candon Briggs picked up the win, striking out two while allowing two earned runs on five hits and three walks in four innings. At the plate, Ryan Rathmann was 3 for 4 with four RBIs while Elliot Schabert was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Dirk Haynes had three RBIs, and Tanner Backer scored three runs.

New Ulm (16-5-1) continues pool play on Saturday against Alexandria Red at 1:30 p.m. and Becker at 3:30 p.m.

Sleepy Eye 2

Sleepy Eye 11, Sioux Falls Black 3 (5 innings)

SIOUX FALLS — Sleepy Eye Junior Legion split its first two games of the Mid-Summer Classic junior legion baseball tournament at Sioux Falls Friday, falling to Excelsior Red 7-2 but defeating Sioux Falls Black 11-3.

Erick Lozano took the loss in Game 1, striking out two while allowing five earned runs on four hits and four walks. At the plate, Carson Uecker was 2 for 3 while Kaden Klein had an RBI. Kam Kosak was 2 for 3 with a run scored.

Klein got the win in Game 2, striking out two while allowing one earned run on six hits in five innings. At the plate, Cole Eckstein was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored while Merrick Mathiowetz was 1 for 2 with two RBIs. Jack Windschitl was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, while Klein, Uecker and Kosak each had a hit and an RBI.

Sleepy Eye continues the tournament Saturday.

Hastings 9, New Ulm 2

LAKEVILLE — Hastings defeated New Ulm 9-2 in the first game of the Lakeville Legion Baseball Tournament Friday.

Kolton Achman took the loss for New Ulm, striking out four while allowing nine earned runs on nine hits and five walks in 5 1/3 innings. At the plate, Luke Suess was 2 for 4 while Achman had an RBI and two walks drawn. Colin Anderson was 1 for 3 with a run scored.

New Ulm continues the tournament Saturday.
