Area roundup: Cougars sneak by Indians in conference opener

PREP VOLLEYBALL

Cedar Mountain 3, Sleepy Eye 1

SLEEPY EYE — Cedar Mountain defeated Sleepy Eye 27-29, 25-23, 25-23, 25-22 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Thursday.

Reagyn Kleinschmidt led the Cougars with 13 kills, 10 set assists, nine digs, three aces and three blocks, while Kendra Erickson had nine kills, 14 assists, eight digs and four aces. Aubrey Steffl had six kills and 22 digs, while Cloey Wildt had four kills, four blocks and three aces. Brynn Hoffbeck added 24 digs.

Sam Price led the Indians with 16 kills and three aces, while Paige Haala had 10 kills and 27 digs. Kayla Hecht had eight kills and Hannah Meyer had 37 assists, 10 digs and two aces.

Sleepy Eye hosts a tournament on Saturday. Cedar Mountain travels to Maple River for a tournament on Saturday.

GHEC/T/ML 3, Madelia 2

MADELIA — Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther downed Madelia 17-25, 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, 15-11 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division volleyball match on Thursday.

Ashlynn Sweet and Lauryn Grev each had 13 kills for Madelia, with Sweet adding eight digs and three total blocks while Grev had nine digs and an ace. Makayla Sorenson had seven kills and eight digs, while Katherine DeVlaeminck had seven kills and three blocks. Alicia Lugo added 21 assists, four aces and four digs.

Madelia (1-4, 0-1) will play in a tournament in Sleepy Eye on Saturday.

Alden-Conger 3, Nicollet 0

NICOLLET — Alden Conger took down Nicollet 25-12, 25-14, 25-19 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division volleyball match.

Kamryn Truebenbach had six kills for Nicollet, while Cason Forbrook and Savannah Klockziem each had eight digs. Katelyn Soost added seven set assists and three aces for Nicollet.

Nicollet hosts Madelia on Tuesday.

BLHS 3, St. Mary’s 1

SLEEPY EYE — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 25-17, 20-25, 25-18, 25-18 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division volleyball match.

Morgan Mathiowetz led the Knights with 16 kills and 20 digs, while Josie Helget had 20 assists. Reese Hoffmann added six kills and nine digs for St. Mary’s.

No statistics were reported for BLHS.

St. Mary’s (2-1) plays at the Sleepy Eye tournament on Saturday.

Le Sueur-Henderson 3, Sibley East 2

ARLINGTON — Le Sueur-Henderson downed Sibley East 25-17, 25-19, 24-26, 27-29, 15-11 Thursday in a South Central Conference volleyball match.

Olivia Halquist had 25 set assists, 10 digs and five kills for the Wolverines, while Brianna Kettner had 12 kills, 15 digs and five aces. Emme Eccles added eight kills and four digs.

Sibley East (1-2, 0-1) plays in a tournament at Maple River on Saturday.

Tuesday

TCU 3, New Ulm 0

MONTGOMERY — Tri-City United defeated New Ulm 25-15, 25-20, 25-9 in a Big South Conference volleyball match on Tuesday.

Miley Flor led the Eagles with five kills, two assists and a dig, while Morgan Hulke had four kills, an ace, two assists and four digs. Brooklyn Lewis had four kills, 11 digs, a block and a set assist.

New Ulm (0-3) hosts Fairmont on Tuesday.

GIRLS SOCCER

New Ulm 10, TCU 1

MONTGOMERY — New Ulm rolled Tri-City United 10-1 in a Big South Conference girls soccer game Thursday.

Grace Barie, Julia Dewitt and Yanellie Fernandez each had two goals in the game, while Kaelyn Eikanger and Piper Kapolczynski had a goal and an assist each. Yuridia Fernandez, Mallory Novak and Jesalyn Skoglund each had two assists, and Olivia Enter and Morgan Zimanski each had a goal. Betsy Joyce and Addison Haynes each had an assist.

New Ulm hosts St. James on Friday.

GIRLS TENNIS

TCU 6, New Ulm 1

MONTGOMERY — Tri-City United defeated New Ulm 6-1 in a Big South Conference girls tennis match on Thursday.

Karlee Prahl got the lone win for New Ulm, taking a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ellie Adams at No. 1 singles.

New Ulm hosts River Valley on Tuesday.

PREP CROSS COUNTRY

SM/SE/NUC boys take 7th at Tracy meet

TRACY — The Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s/Sleepy Eye/New Ulm Cathedral boys cross country team took seventh out of 11 teams during a cross country meet at Tracy Country Club.

Noah Christensen led the SM/SE/NUC boys team, placing 15th with a time of 18:31.32, while Levi Hagen placed 23rd with a time of 19:10.22.

On the girl’s side of the meet, Emma Hagen placed 20th with a time of 22:23.15, while Millie Lax took 29th with a time of 23:09.18.

SM/SE/NUC travels to Norwood-Young America on Tuesday.
