Area roundup: Chargers down Bucs in 5-setter

BLUE EARTH — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran Chargers held off the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers in five sets of nonconference volleyball action Monday, winning 16-25, 25-18, 26-24, 16-25, 15-10.
Three players keyed MVL in the win with double-figure kills, led by Marley Schauer’s 16 kills and two blocks. Jenna Bates had 15 kills, eight digs, four blocks and two aces also for MVL, while Olivia Hammer had 13 kills and 21 digs. Avery Freier had 41 set assists and 14 digs also for the Chargers.
MVL (2-15) is at Lake Crystal next for a South Central Conference volleyball match Tuesday night.
BLHS 3, Nicollet 0
HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart swept Nicollet 25-15, 25-6, 25-10 on Monday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover volleyball match.
Savannah Klockziem led the Raiders in the loss with seven digs, while Leah Bode added six digs.
No statistics were reported for BLHS.
Nicollet travels to play Martin County West on Tuesday night.

LE SUEUR — Le Sueur-Henderson held off New Ulm 4-3 on Monday in a nonconference girls tennis meet.
New Ulm got wins from its top three singles players. Karlee Prahl defeated Addison Fahen 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Carmen Schotzko got a 6-3, 6-2 win over Sallie Nesbit at No. 2 singles. Natalie Fischer defeated Natalie Haemig at No. 3 singles 6-1, 7-5 for New Ulm’s final win of the meet.
