Area roundup: New Ulm boys shut out St. Peter in Big South soccer

NEW ULM — New Ulm downed St. Peter 5-0 in a Big South Conference boys soccer game on Thursday.
Jackson Ocampo scored two goals and added an assist, while Methodius Amoah and Nicholas Dietz each had a goal. Jensen Gerdts had two assists, and Jens Quist had seven saves.
New Ulm (11-2, 6-0) hosts Jordan on Monday.
PREP VOLLEYBALL
Wabasso 3, Lester Prairie 0
WABASSO — Wabasso swept Lester Prairie 25-10, 25-10, 25-11 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division volleyball match Thursday.
Camryn Irlbeck had seven kills for the Rabbits, while Alivia Olson had five kills and three aces. Audrey Johnson had nine digs and six aces, and Leah Mathiowetz had five kills. Sarah Carlson had 19 set assists, five digs and four aces.
Wabasso (16-7, 6-0) plays at Redwood Valley on Saturday.
St. Mary’s 3, GFW 0
WINTHROP — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s swept Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 26-24, 25-16, 25-13 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division volleyball match Thursday.
Morgan Mathiowetz had 16 kills and 18 digs for the Knights, while Reese Hoffmann had 17 kills and 10 digs. Josie Helget had 38 set assists and Natalie Fischer added 12 digs.
Trinity Stearns had five kills for GFW, while Natalie Ahlbrech had 12 set assists. Cheyenne Schmidt had 13 digs and Kora Schwarzrock had three blocks.
St. Mary’s (11-4, 4-2) play in a tournament at St. Clair on Saturday. GFW (0-13, 0-6) hosts Nicollet on Monday.
Cedar Mountain 3, Springfield 0
MORGAN — Cedar Mountain swept Springfield 25-17, 25-22, 25-17 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division volleyball match Thursday.
Kendra Erickson led the way for the Cougars with nine kills, 15 digs and five set assists, while Aubrey Steffl had nine kills. Reagyn Kleinschmidt had six kills, 11 set assists and nine digs. Brynn Hoffbeck added 18 digs.
Teagan Steffl led the Tigers with 10 kills and a block, while Kendall Krueger had six kills, 15 digs, an ace and a block. Jasmine Novotny had five kills and 13 digs, while Taylor Roiger had 19 set assists and 12 digs.
Cedar Mountain (8-4, 4-2) plays in a tournament in Nicollet on Saturday. Springfield (2-11, 1-5) travels to Red Rock Central on Friday.

NICOLLET — Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton downed Nicollet 25-17, 20-25, 30-28, 25-18 in a nonconference volleyball match Thursday.
Leah Bode had eight kills, 15 digs and four blocks, while Savannah Klockziem had eight kills. Katelyn Soost had 16 digs, and Mia Lambrecht had 28 set assists.
Nicollet (2-10) hosts a tournament on Saturday.
LCWM 3, Sibley East 1
ARLINGTON — Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial downed Sibley East 21-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-16 in a South Central Conference volleyball game on Thursday.
Brianna Kettner led the Wolverines with 11 kills, 15 digs and two aces. Emme Eccles had 10 kills and six digs, while Mahrlie Lundgren had four kills and six dig. Olivia Halquist had 25 set assists, five digs and two blocks, while Rachelle Wear had three kills and four blocks.
Sibley East (5-13) hosts St. Clair on Tuesday.
GIRLS SOCCER
St. Peter 5, New Ulm 3
ST. PETER — St. Peter held off New Ulm 5-3 on Thursday in a Big South Conference girls soccer game Thursday.
New Ulm’s goals came from Piper Kapolczynski, Julia Dewitt and Jesalyn Skoglund, with Skoglund’s coming on a penalty kick.
New Ulm is at Hutchinson on Saturday.
PREP CROSS COUNTRY
Hagen takes second at St. James meet
ST. JAMES — St. Mary’s/Sleepy Eye/New Ulm Cathedral’s Emma Hagen took second place on the girls side of a prep cross country meet Friday at St. James, leading the team with a time of 22:06.15.
Millie Lax followed in seventh place with a time of 23:41.56, while Teresa Fischer (25:10.27) took 16th.
For the SM/SE/NUC boys, Noah Christensen (18:22.56) and Levi Hagen (18:26.62) finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Austin Vee (19:43.82) and Eli Christensen (20:03.26) placed 18th and 19th respectively, and Max Fischer (20:07.75) placed 20th.
New Ulm also attended the meet, with Hadley Batt (24:04.07) placing 11th to lead the girls and Megan Gauert (25:09.18) taking 15th. For the New Ulm boys, Nicholes Turbes (21:58.32) placed 34th and Sawyer Luker (22:00.13) placed 36th.
