ST. BONIFACIUS — The Martin Luther College volleyball team picked up a conference victory on the road versus Crown College in four sets.
The Knights topped the Polars 3-1 and tied a season-best in kills (58), with senior Lauren Paulsen leading the group with 20, which was the most for a Knights’ player in 2024.
MLC took command of the match with a nice 25-15 win in the first set as the Knights recorded 16 kills on only five errors. Crown answered in the second set to even the match up 1-1 and had to climb out of a 10-4 deficit to win it 25-23.
The Knights regathered in the third set (25-20) and closed up the match in the fourth set 26-24 after being down 24-22. MLC scored four unanswered points and Ella Schlei gave the Knights the final point needed when she blocked an attempted attack by Sydney Cotten.
MLC finished with 19 more kills than the Polars (58-39) and also took advantage on their serve attempts as they surpassed Crown in service aces as well 12-2. Madelinn Romsdahl led the charge in that category finishing with five aces.
Meanwhile, Grace Kieselhorst delivered 30 assists, which is a career-high for the senior. Anna Kieselhorst and Lydia Feidt had 19 and 18 digs respectively to pace MLC in that area on the court.
With the win, MLC has now defeated Crown in 10 consecutive matches and will have a chance to make it 11 in a row on October 26 when they meet up in New Ulm. First, the Knights (5-13, 2-3) will focus on another UMAC match at Minnesota Morris in less than 24 hours when they play the Cougars at 1 p.m. Saturday.
