GIRLS BASKETBALL
MVL 44, Waseca 37
WASECA — Minnesota Valley Lutheran improved to 2-0 to start the 2024-25 season with a 44-37 win over Waseca on Tuesday night in a nonconference girls basketball game.
Ziva Zahrt led the way for MVL with a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Avery Freier added 12 points and Avery Hahn had 10 points and nine rebounds. Olivia Hammer chipped in 5 points and had three steals also for MVL.
Waseca was led by Callie Dufault, who had 10 points.
MVL hosts Maple River on Dec. 5.
Orono 64, New Ulm 30
ORONO — Orono downed New Ulm 64-30 on Tuesday in a nonconference girls basketball game.
Maddie Backer led New Ulm with 10 points and three rebounds, while Betsy Joyce had 6 points and four rebounds and Brooklyn Lewis had 6 points and three rebounds.
New Ulm (0-2) hosts Marshall on Dec. 3.
Sibley East 52, Cathedral 41
ARLINGTON — Sibley East downed New Ulm Cathedral 52-41 Tuesday in a nonconference girls basketball game.
Olivia Macho led the Greyhounds with 15 points on five 3-pointers, while Shay Wilfhart had nine points. Jayde Altermatt added 8 points.
No statistics were reported for Sibley East.
Cathedral hosts Springfield on Tuesday. Sibley East hosts JWP on Monday.
TMB 54, Wabasso 48
WABASSO — Tracy-Milroy-Balaton defeated Wabasso 54-48 in a nonconference girls basketball game on Tuesday.
Anistasia Smith led the Rabbits with 19 points and 19 rebounds, while Aylah Jenniges had 13 points, 13 rebounds and three steals. Ava Samyn added 12 points and five rebounds.
Wabasso hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Tuesday.
GIRLS HOCKEY
Willmar 4, New Ulm 0
WILLMAR — Willmar shut out New Ulm 4-0 on Tuesday night in a nonconference girls hockey game.
Ava Brennan played the first two period in net for New Ulm, allowing three goals and stopping 29 shots. Ava Schmid played the third period in net and allowed a goal with 14 saves.
New Ulm had 24 shots in the game.
The Eagles (1-5) are at Marshall on Dec. 5.
