Sleepy Eye 33

SLEEPY EYE — Morgan Mathiowetz scored 41 points Tuesday to lead Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s past Sleepy Eye 64-33 in a Tomahawl-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division girls basketball game at St. Mary’s High School.

Mathiowetz added four rebounds also, while Brynne Ibberson had 11 points and two rebounds. Amelia Schwartz had 4 points and seven rebounds also for the Knights, while Olivia Schieffert had 4 points, six rebounds and three steals and Natalie Fischer had 4 points and three rebounds.

Sleepy Eye got 6 points apiece from four different players in Paige Haala, Cadence Okerman, Kayla Hecht and Taylor Berkner.

St. Mary’s (3-0, 1-0) is at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday, while Sleepy Eye (0-4, 0-1) hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Friday.

Nicollet 52

NICOLLET — Cedar Mountain held off Nicollet 56-52 on Tuesday night in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference girls basketball crossover game.

Kendra Erickson led the Cougars in the win with 23 points, 10 rebounds and three steals, while Aubrey Steffl had 19 points, five rebounds and 10 steals. Brooklyn Diehn had 12 points, five assists and five steals also for the Cougars.

Nicollet was led by Leah Bode’s 17 points, while Cheyenne Klockziem had 13 points and Savannah Klockziem had 11 points. Zoie Rengstorf added 9 points.

Cedar Mountain (2-0) hosts Lester Prairie Friday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division game, while Nicollet (2-1) is at Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther for a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division game on Thursday.

GFW 55, Wabasso 42

WABASSO — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop downed Wabasso 55-42 on Tuesday night in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division girls basketball game.

Taylor Bauer led the Thunderbirds in the win with 17 points, while Nicole Duehn and Kelby Bruns each had 9 points.

Wabasso was led by Anistasia Smith’s 15 points and six rebounds, while Elizabeth Morin had 13 points, four rebounds and three steals.

GFW (2-2, 1-0) hosts Sibley East on Thursday, while Wabasso (0-4, 0-1) hosts Springfield on Tuesday.

Cedar Mountain 80,

Nicollet 54

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain took down Nicollet 80-54 on Tuesday night in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference boys basketball crossover game.

Blake Schueller led the Cougars with 33 points and 13 rebounds, while Blake Steffl had 18 points, 10 assists and six rebounds. Carson Schiller added 14 points.

Nicollet was led by Carson Kettner, who had 16 points, while Henry Oscarson added 13 points.

Cedar Mountain (1-0) is at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop for a Tomahawk Division game, while Nicollet (0-1) hosts Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on Thursday.

WEM 77, MVL 66

WATERVILLE — Waterville-Elysian-Morristown defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran 77-66 on Tuesday in a nonconference boys basketball game.

MVL was led by Luke Merseth’s 24 points, while Pierson Brau added 21 points.

Talen Taylor had 26 points to lead WEM, while Gavin Brown had 17 and Brody Holicky had 11.

MVL (0-1) is at Springfield on Friday night.

Madelia 76, Loyola 53

MADELIA — Madelia downed Mankato Loyola 76-53 on Tuesday night in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division boys basketball game.

Kaydon Firchau led Madelia with 25 points and four assists, while Hayden Jones had 15 points, four 3-pointers. Kyle Pietsch added 9 points and eight rebounds also for the Blackhawks, while Dalton Tatro had eight rebounds.

Madelia (1-0, 1-0) hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday.

Sibley East 73, GFW 38

ARLINGTON — Sibley East ran by Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 73-38 on Tuesday night in a nonconference boys basketball game.

Sibley East (1-0) was led by Quinton DeVlaeminck, who had 20 points, six rebounds, four assists and six steals, while Evan Pautsch had 14 points, six assists, seven steals and three rebounds and Ezra Weber had 14 points. Jack Feterl added 11 points, five assists, five rebounds and three steals also for the Wolverines.

New Ulm sweeps

St. Clair quad

ST. CLAIR — New Ulm won all three matches at a quadrangular at St. Clair on Tuesday, defeating Mankato East 51-15, Cannon Falls 56-17 and St. Clair/Mankato Loyola 54-17

New Ulm had five wrestlers win three matches in the quad, with Chase Wilson getting two pins at 107, Regan Johnson getting two pins at 114, Kane Johnson getting one pin at 133, Elijah Rieser sweeping his matches at 139 and Braxton Kieker getting two pins at 145. Braydon Miller won two matches, getting one pin at 127, as did Candon Briggs at 152. Lane Ruch also had a win at 189 and a win by fall at 215.
