NEW ULM — The Martin Luther College women’s basketball team secured a wire-to-wire victory over the Carleton Knights on Friday evening 63-57.

MLC started the contest off shooting well from the floor and separated themselves, especially in the second quarter as Mya Morris connected on three 3-pointers as the Knights doubled up Carleton 39-18 at the break.

The Carleton Knights gave it their all in the second half and cut it to single digits in the fourth quarter, but MLC never seemed to lose their composure when tested down the stretch.

The MLC Knights frontcourt came up big in this one. Freshman Ava Stein impressed with a double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds) off the bench and came away with a team-high in steals (2). While MLC received contributions from a first-year player, its fifth-year senior Emma Dorn led the Knights with 16 points while also grabbing eight boards.

Morris finished with 14 points but made a bigger difference getting her teammates involved, leading the Knights’ squad with six assists. MLC’s balanced scoring attack also saw Lydia Feidt and Lauren Paulsen score nine points, with Paulsen collecting 11 rebounds.

As a team, MLC outrebounded Carleton 45-33, played nice halfcourt throughout the game, and forced multiple shot clock violations. Additionally, MLC held the Carleton Knights to 36.4 percent shooting.

Despite not shooting the ball well in the second half, MLC limited their mistakes offensively and had a season-low in turnovers (8).

With the win, MLC improves to 5-2 overall and plays one more game against a MIAC school on Monday at 7 p.m. That game will feature the final game before Christmas Break as the Knights take on Augsburg in New Ulm.

Starting at $4.38/week.
