Area roundup: Cougars hold off Tigers; Rabbits hit century mark
BOYS BASKETBALL
Cedar Mountain 66, Springfield 60
SPRINGFIELD — The Cedar Mountain Cougars built a 32-23 halftime lead and held off a rally by the Springfield Tigers in the second half for a 66-60 win in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division boys basketball game on Monday night.
Blake Schueller led the Cougars in the win with 26 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks, while Carson Schiller had 13 points and five rebounds and Blake Steffl had 12 points, nine assists and three steals. Zach Sandgren added 11 points.
Brayden Sturm led the Tigers with 15 points, nine rebounds and three assists, while Isaac Fredin had 14 points and eight rebounds.
Madden Lendt had 12 points and four rebounds also for Springfield, while Bryan Buerkle added 9 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Cedar Mountain (5-0, 4-0) is at Cleveland for a Tomahawk-Valley crossover game Tuesday night, while Springfield (3-1, 2-1) is at Lester Prairie Friday night for another Tomahawk Division game.
Wabasso 109, BLHS 70
WABASSO — The Wabasso Rabbits hit the century mark on Monday with a 109-70 win over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.
Drew Kemp led the Rabbits’ rout with 27 points, while Brayden Guetter had 16. They were two of five Rabbits in double figures as Jack Burns added 11 points and Caden Frericks and Tavyn Larson each had 10. Jayden Remiger just missed double figures with 9 points.
BLHS was led by Cameron McColley’s 18 points, while Russell Johnson had 16.
Wabasso (3-2, 1-2) hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Nicollet 58, Loyola 19
NICOLLET — Nicollet rolled by Mankato Loyola 58-19 on Monday night in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division girls basketball game.
Leah Bode led the Raiders with 22 points while Savannah Klockziem had 14 points and Zoei Rengstorf had 13.
Sammy Kann led Loyola with 6 points.
Nicollet (5-2, 4-1) is at Sleepy Eye for a conference crossover game at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Redwood Valley 82, Cedar Mountain 52
REDWOOD FALLS — Redwood Valley topped Cedar Mountain 82-52 on Monday night in a nonconference girls basketball game.
Aubrey Steffl led the Cougars in defeat with 26 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Brooklyn Diehn added 12 points. Kendra Erickson had 4 points and eight rebounds.
Cedar Mountain (5-2) hosts Springfield on Tuesday night in Morgan.
BLHS 58, Wabasso 30
BUFFALO LAKE — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart downed Wabasso 58-30 on Monday night in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division girls basketball game.
Elizabeth Morin led Wabasso with 7 points, while Leah Mathiowetz added 6 points.
No statistics were reported for BLHS.
Wabasso (0-6) hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
