NEW ULM — The New Ulm Eagles blanked New Prague 4-0 Saturday in a nonconference girls hockey game at the New Ulm Civic Center.

Madalynn Olson scored her first goal of the season and sophomore Greta Bailey had her first career varsity goal, while Mya Hornick and Brecklyn Harazin also added goals.

Harazin, an eighth-grader, also added two assists.

Tristyn Wolner, Olson, Isabelle Forstner and Brielynn Weston each added a helper.

New Ulm goaltender Ava Brennan stopped all 21 Trojan shots in the game as the Eagles more than doubled the shots with 48 on New Prague netminder Chloe Wita.

“This was a big game for us,” New Ulm head coach Jeremy Reed said. “We have grown a lot as individual players and more so as a team. The girls came into this game with excitement and we put up 49 shots on net.”

The Eagles, who have had problems scoring goals at times this season, took a 1-0 lead at the 3:54 mark when Hornick broke in solo and backhanded the puck by Wita with Forstner and Wolner getting the assists.

New Ulm upped the lead to 2-0 just two minutes into the second period when Harazin scored on assists from Olson and Weston.

New Prague tried to get back into the game midway through the third period when they went on a power play.

But the Eagles turned the tables on the Trojans when Olson scored a short-handed goal for a 3-0 lead at the 8:41 mark.

Reed was happy with his team putting pucks on the net.

“We have been stressing putting pucks and bodies on net,” he said. “And our fourth goal was Greta with her first varsity goal and that is what that is — going to the net and the puck went to the net — she got to the net and she was successful.”

New Um, now 4-8 on the season, is off until they play in the Sartell Tournament December 26-28.
