MLC women suffer back-to-back defeats in return from break
The Martin Luther College Knights women’s basketball team had a tough return from their Christmas break, suffering a pair of back-to-back losses on the road.
The Knights fell to Hamline 74-51 on Tuesday and then fell to a St. Olaf comeback on Wednesday as St. Olaf won 59-57.
In the loss to Hamline, the Knights trailed 35-17 at halftime and had 24 turnovers that ultimately proved to be the difference-maker as they led to 23 points off of them.
MLC was led by Mya Morris’ 15 points, while Lydia Feidt had 10 points and Emma Dorn had 7 points and eight rebounds. Grace Kieselhorst added 7 points and seven rebounds.
In the loss to St. Olaf, the Knights won every quarter but the final one as St. Olaf outscored MLC 24-9 in the final frame. St. Olaf came back from 18 points down for the win and had just under two minutes total with the lead.
Morris again led the Knights with 26 points, while Feidt had 11 points and six rebounds. The Knights turned it over less (13 turnovers) than St. Olaf (16 turnovers) in Wednesday’s game, but MLC’s turnover at the end of the game proved costly as a steal and layup by Ziling Zhen with 3 seconds left won the game for St. Olaf.
MLC (6-4) begins Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play next Wednesday at Minnesota Morris.
