Area roundup: Firchau’s 44 leads Madelia by Edgerton

Madelia 93, Edgerton 79
MADELIA — Madelia freshman Kaydon Firchau dropped in 44 points to lead the unbeaten Blackhawks to a 93-79 win over Edgerton on Monday night in nonconference boys basketball action.
Firchau added five rebounds and four assists to go with his 44 points, 33 of those points coming in the second half. Hayden Jones added 14 points for Madelia, now 8-0 on the season, while Tony Zaleski had 14 points off the bench and Josiah DeMaris had 10 points. Tate Becker and Kyle Pietsch each had 10 rebounds for the Blackhawks.
Madelia plays at United South Central on Tuesday night.
Sleepy Eye 57, GFW 51
WINTHROP — Sleepy Eye held off Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 57-51 on Monday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.
Landon Wendinger led Sleepy Eye with 14 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks, while Brayden Heiderscheidt had 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Eric Lozano added 6 points, eight assists and five steals.
GFW was led by Cole Jacobson’s 13 points, while Eric Herrera and Easton Taylor each had 9 points and Layton Hamre had 7.
Sleepy Eye (6-5, 4-2) hosts Springfield on Thursday night, while GFW (3-5, 1-3) hosts Sibley East on Tuesday night.
RCW 86, Wabasso 71
RENVILLE — Renville County West topped Wabasso 86-71 on Monday night in a nonconference boys basketball game.
Brayden Guetter led Wabasso in the loss with 30 points and 13 rebounds, while Calvin Hanna added 10 points and six rebounds. Caden Frericks added 8 points and nine rebounds also for Wabasso.
Wabasso (7-4) is at Cedar Mountain for a conference game on Friday night.
