Eagles boys score early, often in win over Redwood Valley
NEW ULM — The New Ulm Eagles boys hockey team jumped to a 4-0 lead after the first period and used that to down Redwood Valley 7-2 Saturday night in a Big South Conference hockey game at the New Ulm Civic Center.
Hunter Larson and Brody Nordby each scored two goals for New Ulm, now 8-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play. Carson Uecker, Brecken Neuman and Josh Forstner each added a goal.
Uecker added three assists, with Larson, Ian Brudelie, Mason Buegler and Ben Alfred each adding helpers.
Kilen Cilek had both goals for Redwood Valley (2-11, 1-7).
Eagles netminders Jayden Grunst and Graham Glaser split time in goal, with each stopping seven of eight Cardinals shots.
Jacob O’Halloran stopped 40 of 47 New Ulm shots.
The Eagles, who host Big Nine opponent Albert Lea Tuesday night, got on the board when Uecker fired a shot from just inside the blue line to beat O’Halloran at the 7:47 for an unassisted goal.
Larson followed that up with two goals just over a minute apart, with Uecker earning the assist on Larson’s first goal.
Neuman’s power-play score — with assists to Buegler and Brudelie — made it a 4-0 lead as New Ulm outshot Redwood Valley 17-5.
