NUA takes second at conference meet
JACKSON — New Ulm Area placed second out of 14 teams in the Big South Conference wrestling meet on Saturday, scoring 180 team points.
Marshall won the meet with 222 points. Jackson County Central rounded out the top three with 167.5 points.
Regan Johnson (107) and Wyatt Pollard (172) both placed first in the tournament for the NUA boys team, as did Anna Pollard (112) and Elizabeth Dake (170) for the girls team. Kane Johnson (127) took second place, while Elijah Rieser (139), Braxton Kiecker (145) and Jamisen Frederickson (215) each placed third. Tegan Kral (133) and Lane Ruch (189) took fourth place, and Braydon Miller (114) and Dirk Haynes (160) both placed fifth.

Olivia Hammer led the Chargers with 24 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Avery Freier had 22 points, five assists, five rebounds and two steals. Avery Hahn added 9 points and nine rebounds.

WABASSO — Wabasso earned its first win of the season with a 57-47 victory over Red Rock Central Saturday in a nonconference girls basketball game.
Sara Carlson led the Rabbits with 13 points and four rebounds, while Audrey Johnson had 12 points, five rebounds and three assists. Aylah Jenniges had 10 points, nine rebounds and six assists with two blocks and two steals, while Anistasia Smith had 10 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
