NEW ULM — On Tuesday night, New Ulm’s Josie Sellner didn’t just return from an injury that has been limiting her participation in gymnastics for the past few weeks.

She also took over.

Josie Sellner placed first in all-around score and helped lead the Eagles to a 131.85 to 128.55 win over Jackson County Central in a prep gymnastics met at the New Ulm Recreation Center.

“I’m just happy I got here,” Josie Sellner said. “I put in so much work, I didn’t want to get behind, and I’m happy to bounce back.”

Josie Sellner was able to fight though the pain and post a 34.375 all around score, placing first on bars (8.05), beam (8.7) and the floor (9.2) while taking sixth in vault (8.425). Sellner’s floor score was just short of her career high of 9.3 despite still feeling her lingering ankle injury.

“I was able to stay clean, and it’s muscle memory,” Josie Sellner said. “I was able to pull though and push through the pain. Floor I definitely felt it, but I had to push through for my team.”

New Ulm was missing Avarey Sellner on the day, who was also limited in last Thursday’s meet, but the Eagles were able to surpass their season average score of 130.621 despite missing a key member of the varsity squad.

Also for New Ulm, Sophia Berger placed second in all around with a 33.025 taking second on beam (8.55) and the floor (8.825) and third on vault (8.5), while Isabelle Longtin placed fourth in all around with a score of 32, taking fifth on vault (8.45) and beam (8.2). Matilda Klawitter took first on vault (8.725) and fourth on the floor (8.7).

New Ulm hosts Fairmont on Friday.

Starting at $4.38/week.
